Disney Market Meppel:
We were at the Disney market in Meppel last Saturday. When we started talking to Frist Verhoek, an experienced Pin saver and trader. Frits can be found at many fairs in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. Often together with his wife and son. On his table we found a letter with information for the novice pin saver. This naturally aroused our interest and we asked Frits if we could use this text for this article. Below you will find Frits' tips!
Information for the (beginning) pin saver:
All pins that you can find in the various Disney parks and on ShopDisney (the official Disney webshop) can be exchanged in the parks. Nowadays there is usually a logo of 'official pin trading Disney' on the back of the pin. Most pins also have a pattern of Mickey heads on the back. Older pins sometimes don't have this.
There are a lot of fake pins in circulation via Vinted. You are also not allowed to exchange fake pins in the Disney parks, but unfortunately there are a lot of them in circulation at the exchange locations. Recognizing a fake Pin can be quite difficult if you have just started collecting Pins. So here are a few tips:
With many fake pins:
- The Mickey heads on the back are poorly printed, especially at the edges.
- Lines in faces are not sharp, they are blurred or sloppy.
- Are the colors of the figure incorrect compared to the original pin?
But this is not an exclusive list. There can be many other differences between real and fake. This is something you learn over time by viewing and discovering many pins. Of course, you can always ask experienced pin savers for advice if you have any doubts about the authenticity of a pin.
Open edition pins (OE) are pins that have been released in unlimited quantities and can often be found for some time in the Disney parks or on ShopDisney. Limited edition pins (LE) are made in a limited edition. They are often also numbered on the back of the pin (especially LE pins sold at Disneyland are often individually numbered). You can exchange open edition pins for other open edition pins, and limited edition pins can be exchanged for other limited edition pins. ShopDisney sometimes contains Limited Release pins, these are generally seen as open edition pins, they are available for a (usually short) certain period of time, but there is no maximum number of existing pins (which is the case with an LE pin).
If you have any questions, please send me a message on Facebook. Hopefully I will see you again soon as a pin saver!
Greetings Frits Verhoek.
